International Private Medical Insurance is designed to cover emergency and routine medical treatment in the country where the member is residing.

Travel insurance may not be appropriate as it is only used for health emergencies during a holiday or a business trip and it wouldn’t cover treatment that is not urgent.

This type of insurance would suit short/long-term employees on secondment to another country. However, local laws and regulations can change regularly and need to be taken into consideration before implementing a policy. For example, some countries require private medical insurance cover to be in place before the employee arrives in the country.
